About Joshua's

Celebrating its 40th year in Woodstock, Joshua's Café and Restaurant is headed by Stefanie Schacter, second generation chef and owner since 1992.

Stefanie's passion for food was ignited at an early age, as she grew up watching her father in the very kitchen where she now presides. Trained at the Culinary Institute of America in neighboring Hyde Park, NY, Stefanie's real inspiration for her global menu comes from a deep love of travel (this photo of a spice market comes from one of her recent trips!) Stefanie returns from every one of her worldwide jaunts brimming with ideas of how best to incorporate new tastes into the much loved Joshua's palette. Her Middle Eastern-based menu contains a dazzling array of dishes, some bold and exotic, some classic and cozy. There is literally something for everyone at Joshua's, evidenced by table upon table of diners enjoying overstuffed omelets, anything-but-boring salads and entrees that appear to have jumped right off the pages of the latest hit foodie blog.

"Local," "sustainable," and "seasonal" have dictated the menu at Joshua's long before they were the call words of foodies everywhere. Our menu proudly features Bell & Evans chickens, Feather Ridge eggs and Hereford beef. And vegetarian and vegan dishes have been part of our offerings since our inception.

Joshua's is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every day, we see what's fresh at the markets before we decide on our ever-changing daily specials.

Over the years, Joshua's has been honored with many culinary accolades, including raves from Ruth Reichl (of Gourmet Magazine fame) and Michael Lomonaco (chef of Windows on the World and Porter House). But perhaps the greatest compliment is that so many customers say that they come to Woodstock specifically to eat at Joshua's, and that they can't believe that healthy food tastes so wonderful.
